In this project, I explored the theme of the Dance of the Seven Veils from Salomé, Oscar Wilde's infamous play based on the biblical story of Salome. During the research and brainstorming process, I drew a connection between the Seven Veils and the Seven Deadly Sins: both are rooted in the Bible and share the symbolic significance of the number seven. Re-reading Wilde's play, I noticed that the characters' actions closely reflect the Seven Deadly Sins. Throughout the play, they act according to instinct and desire rather than morality, ultimately leading to its tragic and gruesome ending. I also took inspiration from Wilde's vivid descriptions of objects and symbols—including the peacock, serpent, narcissus, moon, ripe fig, pomegranate, and Herod's jewels—to develop the visual language of this project. Each design was digitally printed onto silk.
